Narnia 2019 - Sunday 1st December.
Our Narnia themed yoga retreats are always a sell out - so get these dates in your diaries now. Bookings will open in the Spring. Based at Barley Wood in Bristol there will again be the option to attend for a day (either the Saturday or the Sunday) or to stay overnight Saturday and attend both days.
This retreat has almost become an institutional event with people booking year on year to take part in this little slice of magic so close to Christmas but before the real hurly burly sets in!
We ask everyone to contribute to our Pot Luck lunch by making or buying something to share at the lunch buffet table - and every year it just seems to get better and better.

A typical day will start with arrivals and welcome at 10.30am followed by a flow class at 11.00am leading into something a little more gentle before lunch and after lunch. THe afternoon could include a workshop and more yoga before ending the day with a relaxing guided meditation. Then tea and cake before we head home. A full programme will be available nearer the time.

Yoga retreat in Sri Lanka Nov 2018 - a sell out success! Next yoga holiday planned for March 2020 details coming soon!
With YMCA Bath Group we took a group of 17 yogis to Sri Lanka in Nov 18 for a week of yoga, sun, SUP, tea planatations, safaris and so much more…. We were hosted by the wonderful Glenda and Peter Botes who opened their own boutique hotel Plantation House, in Hikkaduwa - Sri Lanka - where we based the retreat from but also used accommodation at both Plantation House and next door Vesma Villas.
Plantation House, is a new, modern villa, built in 2017 with all the requirements for a relaxed holiday in beautiful Sri Lanka. With spacious accommodation leading onto a wide veranda, cooled by paddle fans, overlooking a lovely garden, with swaying coconut trees, and a sparkling swimming pool. There is an outdoor dining area and yoga platform beside the pool, to enjoy as much of the beautiful weather, as possible. The villa is completely air-conditioned, to ensure a good night’s rest. Next door in Vesma Villas we benefited from similar accommodation.
The Plantation House villa is owned and run by Peter & Glenda Botes, which is just a 5 minute walk to the famous swimming, surfing, and holiday beach of Hikkaduwa. Hikkaduwa, is a well-known holiday destination, with a chilled, laidback atmosphere.
After flying into Colombo, guests were met by a private driver and transferred by air-conditioned mini-van or bus to Plantation House. This is approximately a 2-hour drive on the new motorway, down the South Coast.
Hikkaduwa is a bustling town and while it’s a tourist destination, it has not lost the charm which is evident by all the markets & local traders. The next main town down the South Coast is the famous walled city of Galle, which is a 15 minute car/bus/tuk-tuk drive away. Galle is rich in history dating back to the days of the Portuguese & Dutch settlers, and a must for a visit on your trip.
Hikkaduwa beach is long stretch with beautiful soft white sand, lined by coconut trees, perfect for lazing the day away, dipping often into the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. For the early riser, a great way to start the day is a walk or run on the beach, with a quick dip in the ocean before returning for breakfast – which will be served on the outdoor terrace.
The local beach has an assortment of restaurants serving breakfast, lunch & dinner, offering everything from a typical English breakfast to Sri Lankan & International Cuisine. The local fishermen take their boats out early each morning, so fresh fish is a definite on every menu. One must not miss the spectacular sunsets, a perfect spot to sip a cool drink, at the end of the day.
There is an excellent yoga studio a short bike or tuk tuk ride from Plantation House, where 2 classes per day are on offer, that we were also able to access.
What we did - we offered 2 yoga classes a day (morning and evening) and occasional pool yoga in the afternoon. We made the most of Glenda and Peter’s local knowledge and visited: tea and spice plantations, the Tsunami museum and memorials, a turtle sanctury, busy town of Galle, we went stand up paddleboarding, visited temples, great eateries, had a beach side BBQ, optional cookery lessons, and some went off on Safari for a day. Considering we were only there for a week - we crammed in so much.
‘Best holiday I have ever had’ - Natalie
‘I loved that we actually got to swim with turtles in the sea’ - Sarah
‘We did so much - highlight was the SUP’ - Jen
well, this was such a success that we have already started to plan a return visit in March 2020 - with potential options to stay longer and travel to the north of Sri Lanka and do a safari en route. More detail in the Spring.
Spring to life Retreat - Reset, Re-align, Reconnect. Fri 29th - Sun 31 March 2019 or day only option for Sat 30th
We had a fabulous long weekend at Barley Wood where we had a handful of yogi’s join us for the full weekend at this stunning venue (spaces are limited) and then 25 join us for the Saturday from 10am - 4.30pm. THere was lots of lovely yoga on offer. The morning focused on Vin to Yin so we started with a Vinyasa flow led by Michelle, then Trish took everyone through a Yin journey of the chakras before lunch. After lunch (the pot luck lunch was another roaring success) to give our full bellies time to recover, Sarah gave a talk on aromatherapy and then Robyn got us working again with a lovely flow. Finally Sarah took us all on one of her beautiful guided meditations. The day finished with tea and cake to fuel the journeys home. Those staying were treated to a mala bead making workshop followed by another delicious meal by chef Garry.
